looking and seeing

taking some pictures today and thinking about
the nature of color:

and the nature of tone:

it is definitely something to explore

not all color photos make good black and whites
(and vice versa of course)
but why is that?

tone
trying to see the tone of things

i don't know much about texture and color, all i know is that your photographs are beautiful.

did you get a new camera?
anyway, beautiful images.

I'm glad Lynn knew the green stuff was kale, because when it was reduced to black and white, it reminded me of photos of the brain. As always, I love your photos, whether they are in color or stripped of it.

Love the see through rose petals and the deep organic crinkles of the cabbage. Like what you are seeing. xox

Interesting images Kimmie. And to answer your question I think it's because you need rich shadows for a good B&W.

Interesting comment Annie, because I chose the cabbage photo which is entirely in shade, and I chose the rose which was entirely in light with no shadow (straight into the sun)

Keep going -- I want to hear what you think as you learn about color and tone --

The colors of nature are awesome in the truest sense. Lovely. :)

these are all stunning photos kimmie. i especially love the sheer transparency of the rose petals. the curly edges on the kale are so lush i wanted to reach out and touch them.

Yes what beautiful images - love them in colour, love them in black and white.

It has been a while since I have been for a visit, and spent some lovely time reading through your recent posts. Really enjoyed your photos, and it reminds me that I should carry my camera more often. (I am sometimes lazy with the picture taking)
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and please share some more pictures!

since returning from our vacation I have not gotten back into a smooth flow ... I blame the scorching humid heat too which makes me wilt

that said it has been lovely catching up with you

I very much like your 'tone' too dear Kimmie ;)
