staying in

it's been rainy and gray outdoors

and a good day to stay in

one of my birthday gifts was a stack of hexagon quilt squares
made from vintage fabrics and handstitched
... they were just waiting for me to come along

I've set aside some of the squares that aren't being included in a mini quilt I'm working on
they make darling little mug rugs
- the perfect thing to work on when it's so dreary outdoors -

making rainbows in spite of the weather

What a great idea! I have several unfinished projects that I inherited with a massive stash of fabric...oh about 25 yrs ago...I couldn't let the wonderful pieces go.
Love the way you have your thread organized as well.

OK, did I miss your birthday? I hope not, but if I did, happy belated!!

You have such skill. You may have gotten those hexagons, but the circles you created for those mug rugs are PERFECT. I was just mentioning to Halle that if I can't tear it (fabric), I don't use it. You certainly have a way with fabric and HAND sewing, too.

Your floss is so well organized. The perfect way to keep it all together.

Beautiful ! Love the photo of your "rainbow" threads, and "mug rugs".....what a cute name, so much nicer than "coaster" which is what we call them. These are really sweet, love the stitching . xx

What organizational skills you have Kimmie! All that floss so neatly separated in rows and colors! You always know how to find the sun even when it is raining!

These are adorable! I love how you have added another generation to something old and useful. I hope who ever inherits them keeps them then passes them on with the story that surely goes with them.

Thanks for your fun comment on my blog today too!!!

Are you using a baking tin for your floss? Looks so lovely! And using the hexagons to make mug coasters is a fabulous idea. You are so very creative! Best wishes, Tammy
