the land of counterpane

quilt landscapes:

I'm nearly done with the piecing together of this scrap quilt for my oldest child
it is completely hand sewn
and no I am not crazy
:)
it's very very pleasant to
sit
and
sew

I call it
"the slow sew"

a haiku:

why do the slow sew?
same reason to do the slow dance:
touch and breath and love

Gorgeous colors, looks like an aerial photo you see of wonderful crops growing from an airplane. Wish I had a Mom who would make me quilts. So pretty. xox Corrine

Sew pretty! What a wonderful gift for your children, something you pieced and sewn by your very own hands! How beautiful!

Slow is the key word. :) I don't sew well at all so for me it is very slow going and no telling how the finished project will turn out. :/ Your handpieced quilt is lovely. A wonderful gift of homespun love. Best wishes and blessings, Tammy

Your Haiku is so fitting and wonderful. :) I love hand sewing too and want to do more of it. I used to embroidery more and really enjoyed sitting and doing that when I was about 6 yrs. old. My aunt still has a piece I did for her at that age. She still uses it in her kitchen. It was a little duck on a small piece of yellow cloth about 8 in. by 12 inches... and I raveled the ends. :)

Kimmie, I am touched. Last night I sat down to just rest in the living room and ended up turning on the tv. I rarely watch it any more and if I do, it's a recorded show with my kids (dirty jobs is a fav. of my son)ANYHOW..I watched the food network and was kind of excited about watching again. But, before long I was almost nauseated. It went so fast. Each segment of how to or how it tastes followed by another. And, if there was a "guest" they had the chance to say but a few words, sort of show what they knew, and on it moved to do or taste something else. It's certainly not the first time I've been bothered by it (which is one reason I don't watch) but it's the beginning of Lent and I think it just meant more this time. I am in no way ready to tackle such a project as yours. I like quick things for now because I get short periods of time to get to my sewing room. But your haiku is so very full of meaning. Thank you.

Love the Haiku...and the fabric..and the photos. Looks like old feed sack material...is it or a reproduction? I don't mind hand sewing although I don't sew especially straight. I'd have a pretty wonky quilt top.

Beautiful!
Remind me to show you our quilts one day. They are all hand pieced and hand sewn by my MIL. She also includes a patch on the back corner where she dates and writes a message. Quite the heirloom.

Hello Kimmie,

I made myself a cup of tea and went back in time to November 2010 looking at your wonderful works of art and this fantastic hand sewn gorgeousness.

Sorry I have not been around but let me say how I have missed you and the tea ladies...how your Tuesday tea followers have grown a big well done to you.
One day I hope to get back with you all again.

one step at a time. x

I see and feel the love in each and every stitch and so will your child. Beautiful fabrics so neatly meeting perfectly at every seam and point. I agree that sitting and sewing by hand or knitting or crocheting brings me wonderful calmness. Something needed right now.

I was going to ask, "feed sacks"? but Halle beat me to that observation. The patterns look vinatge-y, but surely all can't be (if they are at all!) Love the precious bees. You have a great eye for assembling things --and patience to see a slooow process through!
