this is an old art piece
from back in the days of making tons of atc's (artist trading cards)
these atc's are all paper pieced bird houses
I used:
stamping
decorative papers
sanding
inking
a little bit of vintage lace
and attached them all to an old piece of fence wood
it's been hanging in my kitchen for 3 yrs now
and today I decided that it needed
beeswax
a quote I saw yesterday:
take something.
do something to it.
do something else to it.
- jasper johns
some things are much happier with a bit of beeswax
* * *
looking forward to the season of birds
this is what we woke up to:
it's just a little wimpy bit of snow up here in western Washington
it's very pretty and just a little bit of a nuisance
but with our hills and lack of snow removal stuff,
it's enough to close the schools
and put us all into hibernation
Oh Kimmie, I'm inspired to make little pieces of art now... love these ATCs...
ReplyDeleteme too, love ATC that is...i LOVE this wooden shrine too! did you notice the worn off paint at the top looks like a heart?? i can imagine what you house must smell like, i love beeswax...i should use it more! ah, the snow...we just got a dumping but we still have business as usual...xo
ReplyDeleteLove it !! the wood, the papers, the way you put all together. You´re reat Kimmie !!
ReplyDeleteoh your piece turned out beautifully, love the textures Kim, and I heard about your snow, snow days are kinda nice, good to hibernate!!
ReplyDeletesmall art on old wood is so very pretty Kimmie ...stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the new masthead -- it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteTo me where the grass is brown and dead, and the dust is a blowin, your little bit of wimpy snow looks so, so beautiful....as do your bird houses, I think the wax has breathed new life into them and they may last another 3 years...at least.
ReplyDeleteThat DOES look like a little heart at the top of the piece! Mmmmm . . . .beeswax smells so good and gives everything that wonderful glow. Everything old is new again! Love the quote! Hugs, Terri xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe coating of beeswax is a brilliant idea! Love the wood you used...all weathered and fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI've been using my pieces of weathered wood too. I asked my brother for more...said he'd bring me a pickup full! I think your bird houses are wonderful and the wax seems to be a great finish. I really like the quote too.
ReplyDeleteI adore those little houses. I can smell the beeswax as I scrolled down the page. It is addictive.
ReplyDeleteAnd your snow may be whimpy, but when you don't have the proper tools for ridding of it, it can really keep you indoors.
We're expecting the same thing here late today and all through the weekend. Enjoy the hibernation.
ReplyDeleteI can almost smell your beeswaxy creation Kimmie...wonderful with a perfect quote too
ReplyDeleteall this hibernation makes the coming of spring all the sweeter
heavy rains are headed our way
