The Tin Man saves the day ....

(atc for ELK's swap)

It's the tin man who saved the day right? By not falling asleep among the poppies ... but then he rusted when it snowed on everyone .... but it all turned out ok in the end. I love that song you hear in the background as they run run run out of the poppy field once they all wake up .... "you're out of the woods ... you're out of the dark ... you're out of the night" .... and the witch says something like, "Why is there always someone helping that girl!?"

I made the tin flowers by using a flower punch to punch out the shape, and then added dimension by embossing the metal:

  1. I love this so much! I'm doing a sermon series based on the Wizard of Oz and I just preached on the Tin Man this last Sunday. This week is the Cowardly Lion, who incidently, I deeply identify with.

I love your blog, it's such a source of inspiration and refreshment. Thank you for a little haven from the world.

The Wizard of Oz has a wealth of inspiration doesn't it?

I think I always loved the tin man most .... "Now I know I have a heart because I can feel it breaking" .... sweet

  5. This is fabulous, Kimmie! I adore the Tin Man. And, to this very day, I still cry at the end of the movie when Dorothy is saying "goodbye"! I'm such a "softie"!! Love your interpretation - it made me smile and put a "song" in my heart! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  11. I just discovered your blog and am very impressed with your work. I do some work with tin cans; I'm intrigued by your little flowers and the way you've used aluminum pie tins. I'd love you to show pictures of the way you emboss (show your tools) the flowers and your metal frames. Working with tin I've wondered how it can be scored and shaped since it is so heavy/thick and can be difficult to work with. I can see how aluminum would be a bit easier but would like to know more about your process. Thanks so much; and thank you for sharing all your good ideas and beautiful art!
