May 1st Disintegration Project Reveal

When I first embarked on the disintegration project adventure (as documented globally here on The Altered Page), it was an expression of loneliness in friendship. I felt that I was putting something more than a bundle of papers "out in the cold." I was putting a part of myself and some hurts out there with it (see this post). This project has been a wonderful way for me to really begin to connect with my art in a personal way. I have discovered that when there are no words to say something - I can say it visually.

This piece did not disintegrate as much as I had imagined. Nor has my heart. The end result is a thing of beauty to me. I have seen changes in the "man-made" portion of this piece, but I have also seen the rain, snow, ice, sunshine, fog, maple tree add their touches. They have joined themselves to this piece and left evidence of their company.

In the last 14 weeks I have also had new friends leave evidence of themselves in my life. I have "kindred spirits" I didn't know I had. Friendship is a thing of beauty whether in disintegration or in sweet joining of forces and evidences. And hearts remain intact - whether near OR far.

Please check back on August 1st to see a second "reveal" of this work of heart.

This really is such a beautiful project and your thoughts and ruminations on its significance are inspiring. I'm happy for you -- the tone in your voice is just so peaceful.

Kimmie--

What a wonderfully written post--brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for allowing me to live this process through you.

just like the papers and pieces we put out, vulnerable to the elements, so are our hearts when we put them out on our sleeves to carefully be picked up or carelessly flicked off...they are exposed to the elements...and we are vulnerable...

beautiful, beautiful post, kimmie...i am happy to have met such a sensitive soul as you..

Mine did not disintegrate as much as I would have thought - but you gave new depth to the project with your words!!! There is more to this group than just putting stuff outside to weather the elements!!!

Just came from Pat's blog to see your post Kimmie, she's right...you certainly are good at expressing what lies deep within, thank you for sharing that gift with us
My bundle did not disintegrate quite as much as I had imagined, I did get some nice rust which I am excited about and so many connections and threads that bind and weave their spell
Happy May to you! oxo

I have enjoyed this project and I also feel that I have begun to know people in this arena that I did not know how to connect with. Did that make sense? Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing what people create.

I am anxious to see what develops in the next couple of months especially with the blue and white bowls and vessels. You have a poetic approach to you work and we are all learning we are not alone as we make the marks in a sometimes chaotic world. Imagine and live in Peace, Mary Helen
