I made this atc last night and it just sort of unfolded into this sad image of a very distracted (or focused) man. He seems as if he's seen too many battles ....
(Thank you Lumilyon for the beautiful collage image of the soldier.)
Your Scottish soldier makes me think of The Flower of Scotland song. I had the privilege once of standing in a small circle with Scottish friends on the tiny Isle of Arran as one sang this a cappella. Her clear voice gave me chills. Here are the lyrics:
Flower of Scotland
O Flower of Scotland When will we see Your like again, That fought and died for Your wee bit Hill and Glen And stood against him Proud Edward's Army, And sent him homeward Tae think again. And Autumn leaves lie thick and still O'er land that is lost now Which those so dearly held That stood against him Proud Edward's Army And sent him home again Tae think again Those days are past now And in the past they must remain But we can still rise now And be the nation again That stood against him Proud Edward's Army And sent him home again Tae think again. O Flower of Scotland When will we see Your like again, That fought and died for Your wee bit Hill and Glen And stood against him Proud Edward's Army, And sent him homeward Tae think again.
Note: The woman singing was a Highlander, born and bred.

wonderful -- goes along with the Wilfred Owen post I had on my blog this week...
Kimmie! It's wonderful to see the soldier from England in an artwork so far away. This is a beautiful, thoughtful piece x
