photo storage question

has anyone encountered the free 1GB limit for Blogger photos (stored in PicasaWeb)?
I haven't hit the limit, but deleted all of my 2008 posts just in case
I'm hoping that will keep me in good standing for a while
2008 seems like ancient history and I never look back on those earliest blogging days

.... it actually felt good to hit the delete key ....

hi kimmie. i have hit that limit not once but TWICE. i paid the money that they wanted (I'm thinking it was $29). i started my blog in 2010, so am now in my 4th year, just barely. i had my blog printed into books, had to do it quarterly for the first year. i have been realy happy with the books, and plan to print 2011 and 2012 eventually. it's like having a diary to leave my children and grandchildren. don't fret....you probably have lots more space in which to blog.

I think I added storage last year, but have not hit the limit yet. I will probably do what you did and delete old photos when that comes up. xox

I changed some of my early photos down to a lower res and that freed up a lot of space... not sure what I will do when I hit it again but am thinking the clean out of early posts seems like a great idea...
had such a great time catching up on your posts... your photos are always so inspiring...xx

I haven't gotten any notice about my useage, but it got me thinking about how much I have stored. Wondering how to find out the total...??

Hi Kimmie. It's easy, all you do is change the size of your photos to 800 max pixels in either direction and they do not count towards your limit.
When you upload a photo, just change the size in PAINT.
It really is as simple as that.
Happy New Year

I hit my limit last year...and paid for the extra storage...since my computer crashed a year ago, I have multiple storage solutions...call me paranoid! the above suggestion to re-size your photos is a great one...
and I love your previous rock photos...next time you come down to Mukilteo, you should let me know...I'm not that far from there...

Yes--and very frustrated by the imitation--currently only mining old photos stored at Picasa--great suggestions but I'm still hampered by lack of pay-pal and credit cards so I can't even do the book thing...I don't have a 'paint' program or photo shop...but I can reduce the size of every picture as one option (small medium or large) still don't know if that will change the space and not ready to do it yet....also check this out:
If you have had notifications from blogger about running out of space for photos...read this great post, over at http://Mulitcolored Pieces.blogspot.com/ look for EVEREST,on how to deal with that!!

All this talk makes me nervous. I've got nearly five years of almost daily blogging, and I think I've hit my limit and bought the extra space. I used to put the posts into books, but I haven't done it in two years, and now it's just scary.

I first noticed the size a couple of years ago and pointed it out on my blog when people asked how to find out how much space was left. Now that blogger has changed formats, that option is no longer available and we have no way of seeing how much storage is left. Since I post a lot of photos with each post, I worry I'm about to reach my limit. When I do, I'll delete back a few years, then when that no longer works, I'll switch to another blog provider. I think one of the free ones has 3Gb storage.

For two years I kept all my photos on my friend Scott's off site storage. Because it is password protected, I can no longer use that option. I stored and used draft to keep as many in blogger storage as possible, especially when I was teaching the AB class. But time ran out, and when blogger forced me to change over, I could no longer use that option, which kept me in good shape for nearly two years.

Yeah, I hit the limit a couple of years back and am now paying for the extra. In English money it's only just over £1 a month so not too horrendous really.... I guess it's something you're going to have to think about as & when!!

yes. and i deleted photos too. have not yet paid the money.

Firstly Happy New Year to you Kimmie,

Now I'm feeling very nervous and exposed reading your post and all the comments!
I had no idea...but then a few months ago I lost a huge chunk of my photos, so maybe I don't need to worry just yet! It was a sort of enforced edit and I felt sick for days! :(

I think I like the idea of making books though ;D

First of all, let me say that I love the header photo. I'm thinking that it is the same painting I purchased from you a year or so ago. I love it and plan (still) to frame it and hang it in a special place. I will photograph it when I do and post it. Second, love the weeping twig and the sentiments. How simple and succinct a few words and a photo can be and get right to the poing. And balance: I find that I deal with that word every day and feel so off-balance right now, trying to find my way and purpose right now without too much anxiety creeping in. That anxiety seem to paralyze me. Thanks...I might steal your word. I'm still waiting to hear what pops up for me.

Have you ever thought about making each blog year a book? I see the advantage of knowing where we came from and have thought about doing this myself. I must get on it though as it will cost a fortune the more years that get added!!

I met my limit and rather than have a headache trying to figure out what to do, I just pay the $2.95 a month or whatever it is. I thought about deleting older posts but it is kinda fun to look back at where I came from. I'd love to have books made but won't do it from this side of the world. Will have to wait for the summer when I get to the States. Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy

I have a blogger friend who simply just started another blog and directed people to her new blog from her old one. Seemed to solve the problem, but your followers may not take the time to follow you over I suppose.

I got nervous about this last summer, went into Picasa Web and started resizing to 800 pixels on longest side. Then those photos aren't added to your count.

Also, I just nominated you for a Premio Dardos blog acknowledgement (award). Check out my blog for details.

I hit the limit a couple of months ago and started paying. It's $2.49 a month. I just couldn't deal with the thought of trying to resize all the older stuff, plus my old posts get a lot of traffic via Pinterest so I didn't want to delete anything. Good luck!

Hi Kimmie, Unfortunatelly I hit the limit too soon... but an argentine blogger shared a great solution. Her blog is in Spanish. You can try with the translation, otherwise I can help you without any problem. It is very easy and FREE to get more space in Picasa (the problem is picasa albums, as all the photos that we load in our blog are kept there). This is the link, http://lacalustra.blogspot.com.ar/2012/07/no-tiene-mas-espacio.html
Good luck! Veronica

The 800 max pixel thing is the key, as already mentioned. I have only ever posted at 640 pixels max width and have used less than 1% of my Picasa storage as my pis just aren't counted at that size.

I do like that header pic ... we could do with some cold weather here instead of all this rain x

Sorry, pics not pis!
