you may have seen my earlier post about the repurposed book cover
"an easy box to make" (the original how-to)
and
"tea and minor details" (added helpful hints)
well,
here is the same box with a lid
I used a 1958 textbook from the local high school
"Adventures in Reading"
I wanted something to keep my haiku postcards in
as the box fills up,
the lid will rise as well
*
the lid is just a smidge smaller than the box
the handle is braided twine threaded through holes I made with an awl
the edges of the box have been very cleanly cut using my x-acto
*
once the lid rises above the box,
it will be time to make a new box
adventures in reading
:)

Great addition to the box. Do you send your postcards to friends/relatives or sell them?

very very pretty. I would love to see it again when it is full ! It's contents are equally gorgeous ! ;0)
Enjoy your adventures !
your box is a swan song of simplicity. the book fingered by so many hunger fingers...becomes the hands that hold each "book within a page"...your haiku postcards, like drinking deeply from small cups.
this makes my heart sing!
Kimmie, you've elevated that lowly discarded book to new heights and have created a beautiful keepsake that will keep your treasures and give you pleasure. Stunning work! Hugs, Terri xoxo
What a terrific idea Kimmie! I have loads of old books (they attach themselves to me like a magnet wherever I go) and was looking for a few cool ideas to utilize them and voila! Thanks for the inspiration!

Great idea- having the lid rise to the top as the box becomes full- art for art!!
I love the looks of those Haiku cards nestled in that wonderful box. I am all about "boxes and things" and so your previous post with the stones you collected from the beach and also how they were arranged in the box totally appealed to me. What is it about those simple things that, when brought in and organized in some way, appeal so much to us? They are just simple rocks yet, they are NOT just simple rocks!
This looks like a great way to store your beautiful cards!
adding frosting to the cake with your handy and clever handmade box top dear Kimmie...really lovely and inspiring on many levels!
Happy Sunday Dear One!
