snowy plover

"The Snowy Plover is a ground nesting bird found primarily on unvegetated to sparsely vegetated coastal beaches and shores of inland alkaline lakes. An estimated 18,000 Snowy Plovers breed in North America, where U.S. Pacific and Gulf coasts populations are imperiled by degradation of their habitat from development, human recreation and invasive species. The Pacific coast population is listed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as threatened and the Gulf coast population is state-listed as endangered in Mississippi and threatened in Florida."

We have Snowy Plovers close to here at Bitter Lakes Wildlife Refuge. Thank goodness they still wade in prestine water. This is a really beautiful rendition and I love the turtle also.

I'm really glad you have started this series. I think you bring as much recognition to the cause with your lovely watercolors as anyone on CNN or the other TV channels. This painting is no exception. You have pointed out that not just the Gulf, but even the Pacific coast is contributing to the extinction of this beautiful bird. Add in the oil spill and many of these creatures may never recuperate. Thank you so much for caring so deeply.

Kimmie, you are an artist/educator/environmentalist/woman after my own heart! Happy World Environment Day!

Thank you for this "call to arms," albeit peaceful ones. You are so right about our tendency toward being overwhelmed and subsequently apathetic. I am going to post a link to your blog on my own today and encourage everyone in the same way.

Wonderful! What a beautiful legacy. I hope that, within our children's lifetime, all of the animals so affected will come back.

I hang my head in shame because we are the real cause of this disaster with our need for more than the earth can give. I hope that out of it, instead of apathy, activism will gain momentum.

Best,
Bonnie

A friend of mine sent me a link to your blog - thank you for doing this. Your paintings are gorgeous and a tribute to the beauty of the Gulf and the life she supports.

I'm posting a link to your blog on FB - where I have posted so much about the oil kill.

i hope to god that your beautiful images are not our only lasting legacy of the innocent creatures who are desparately suffering in the gulf. thank you for your artistry, your thoughtfulness and tribute to the things that we should honor, protect and never take for granted.
