sea star

A healthy sea star (aka starfish).
Are they the canary in the coal mine?
Thousands washed ashore on Chandeleur Islands Louisiana,
home of the Breton National Wildlife Refuge,
Tuesday April 27th, 2010.
Only 5 days after the sinking of the Deepwater Horizon.

  4. Kimmie: I can't tell you how much it pleases me to see your capturing of the beautiful creatures--something good instead of what I'm seeing on the news. Thank you for creating and sharing--and for visiting me.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  6. I'm so glad to see you continue this series. This latest beauty tugged at my heart. Are there any healthy starfish (or fish for that matter) left in the gulf? Once again, I am delighted that you have brought this to the attention of the world. Thank you for your lovely art, your wonderful research, and your environmental concern.

  9. Hello there. I found you through Elizabeth at A moon Worn as if it had Been a Shell. I really like what you are doing here with these paintings. I have just begun honoring the life of the Gulf through my own creative work - stitching, crocheting, sewing. I am just getting started, but feel a real impulse to do this. It is nice to know I am in good company. x Maribeth

  11. What a great, positive way to deal with this and the sadness that comes from all of it. I just feel like I want to avoid it. I have had emails from people who subscribe to MoveOn.org and the images are beyond belief. I am so saddened by the selfishness of us, a human race. All for oil, greed, money. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves! I wouldn't be surprised if Mother Earth just kicks us off. We deserve it.

  12. That's stunning -- that orange, the little black contrast. I love starfish and love even more their Latin name.
