Tea and Free Speech

I got to listen to President Obama speak to schoolkids because I have a computer.
I'm going to rant now.
What is the good of free speech without the ability to hear it?
We have the cheapest cable pkge we can get.
I could not find his speech anywhere on tv.
We're not poor, but we have the cheapest pkge.
Lots of cartoon channels, shopping channels and televangelists.
No news unless it's network news.
We have enough money to have a computer.
That was the only way I could get a transcript of the speech (I'm seriously doubting it will be printed in the newspaper).
That was the only way I could watch the speech.
My kids don't start school until tomorrow.
Will they watch it at school?
Probably not.
I wrote a very nice e-mail to the principal strongly encouraging him to show it to the kids.
"Your kids will really get it. He's talking right to them," is what I said.
And what does President Obama say?
Discover what you're good at.
Don't give up or quit.
There are no excuses.
You make your own future.
Set your own goals for your education.
Resolve. Commit. Work.
Being successful is hard.
Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
Don't ever give up on yourself.
I expect you to get serious.
I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do.
Make us all proud.
God bless you.
God bless America.

  1. Good speech, sounds like a speech that would have done well through out many of our countries crises. What happened to the people who used to live by these rules, standards, values? Where did they go, come back I say, I am tired of having to excuse bad manners, bad judgement, and poor behavior. Good ranting and sipping tea with you! Christen

  2. I didn't hear the speech either, being at work.
Maybe I can Youtube it later, when I am at home.

It's nice that our President spoke to our children about morals, standards and values. Very inspiring.

    Enjoy your tea!

  3. grrrrrrrrr!! i'm not venting, but why am i surprised anymore by the right? (hmmmm, wrong)...health care reform and now this speech to students has almost been worse than pre-election, all the wild and crazy and terrible things said/made up?? imagine the honor to have a president consider students and address them as citizens when we were young? now? sorry, happy you heard his speech and i'm looking for it tonight. thanks for the excerpts from it.

  5. Even if your children don't get to hear the speech, they will probably want to read it since they are such excellent readers. It gives me great comfort to know that your children are being raised with the positive values you consistently instill in their lives. I'm blessed to be your mom and humbled to see what a fine woman you are.

  6. Kimmie, I've just read your mum's comment above mine and she sounds wonderful. Hello Kimmie's mum! Your daughter is, indeed, lovely. Thanks for posting President Obama's words, I did hear it on the radio, but it's inspiring to read it again. Someone said he did it to "sweeten" the pill of his Healthcare speach. who bloody cares?????
