taking liberties

Sugar Cane Field (by the side of the road)

I painted this one after I got home from my trip.
It was one of those "out the side of the moving car" photos.
I'm showing you the photo too ....
not because I did a great job copying the photo ....
but to show you it doesn't HAVE to look "just like it."

I was looking at the movement and entanglement of super long grass blades
and layers of colors.
I tried capturing that more than anything else.

  1. ooo this is wonderful! you could scan this, manipulate it, layer it in PS or picasa...reuse in other work!! you could also print it out and journal over it!!

    it would make a beautiful fabric print too...

    did you finish your knitting??

  6. No, it certainly doesn't have to look like the photo -- except the way you've done it is to paint what is essential. Essential, probably, to your eye. That is fascinating to me.
