mend and make do

my favorite light weight sweater had bleach spots on it
have you done that before?

so I patched over the spots with wool felt shapes
(they were leftover from a christmas project last year)
they make great patches!

the bleach spots were at kitchen counter height
I must have been bleaching the counters and splashed it on myself
sheesh

it turned out pretty cute
maybe even an improvement over my old faded sweater

***
my girls have been watching netflix re-runs of "what not to wear"
I think clinton and stacy would not approve
... ask me if I care ...

***
how did I make the flower shapes?
cookie cutters were used as templates
what were the flowers originally used for last christmas?
I was making hair clips for my girls
just layer the shapes like I did here,
stitch them with embroidery thread,
attach them to big bobby pins

cute!

  1. I think it's super cute and totally "what TO wear." It looks, in fact, a lot like something you'd find at Anthropologie or Boden!

  2. I totally love it! I accidentally bleached a black t-shirt that was a favorite. I then took a foam stamp with bleach and made the spots part of my design. :) Worked for me.

  3. My attempt at fixing the same problem was to use a sharpie, some success but your's is much cuter. I tried to repair a hole in a wool sweater by needle felting some wool on it. Would have worked great except I chose a color that was slightly off (all I had) and it really made it look like a stain. Ugh.

  4. What great luck that you had felt almost the exact color as your sweater!! Very cute!

  6. Really cute ! I do things like that because I grew up making do and not wasting anything. We are such a throw away society that I love seeing your ideas to use what most would get rid of.

  8. That's a cute idea. My fav is to cross stitch over spots using waste canvas.

I wear aprons a lot in the kitchen so I am missing out on fun mending projects like yours :)
Happy Weekend to you and yours

  10. Totally cute. I've done it to shorts pockets when our beagle Rusty gets into the laundry and eats holes in the shorts where the biscuits used to be....Nice wool on wool though. xox
