the last day of summer

summer is ending and the school break is over

I made this piece to tell a story of the joy of summer and time spent together

an interweaving of color, image and texture

expressing thankfulness for such a wonderful summer season
and a sorrow at turning the corner

and in spite of the sorrow,
an absolute happiness for having traveled that way

  2. Oh wow! Love this. The center crochet piece makes me think of a snowflake and not end of summer. Maybe because of the blue hue.
    Just lovely!

  11. What a special tribute to summer...a beautiful piece of artwork.
It seems strange that summer is leaving you but hopefully it will come our way.
    We'll treasure it too ;D

  14. Really nice piece Kimmie. It's got a soft serenity that makes me think of the lazy days of summer and the pastel colors and your stamps, and the simple hanging on the stick, quite lovely. xox

  15. That does evoke summery feelings and although the holidays are coming to an end it will be nice to have a bit of peace and quiet in the house... we are just two weeks away from spring break and I am counting down the days.... lots of time in the garden before it gets too hot and lots of iced tea... will be thinking of you with all the back to school...xx

  16. I've been trying to leave you a comment for several days and when I do, my computer freezes and stops. The joys of modern technology.

This is gorgeous piece. Of course, one of my favorite things is your hand carved stamps. They always add so much to a piece, as does all that beautiful hand sewing.
