last night I went to a wine bottle slumping class
I thought it was a hot shop (glass blowing)
but their specialty is stained glass
the owner is artist Stan Price and the salmon paintings on glass are his
the shop had lots of examples hanging in the window
both of his own art and of student art
he calls his studio a "learning studio" and his focus is on classes and workshops
... for the average person as well as for the stained glass enthusiast ...
it is always an inspiration to me to visit someone's art workspace
I have a fresh sense of what is possible
and a new respect for a completely different medium
the wine bottle part was fun and I'll tell you more about that in a later post
they won't be ready for a couple of days
but I knew you would love to see some of the beautiful art

I love all of the glass. There is something magical about glass to me. Thank you for expanding our horizons. I need it.

ReplyDeletefacinating. anxious to see what you created. i took a image transfer class last night. it's amazing what can be used to do transfers. i'm going to see what i have under my sink that might work.

That is gorgeous work. Glass work really interests me and I love to watch people do that kind of artwork, glassblowing or stained glass. I would love to find a new class, as I'm only doing my watercolor classes now. I'm about ready for something new and different. Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteThose fish windows are amazing! I once created a stained glass "window" out of blown sugar. Back in the days of pastry chef-dom, in my other life.
ReplyDeleteAs for a recent workshop -- last fall I attended a day of food-crafting -- we made bread and jam and mustards and goat cheese. It was a fantastic day, and I'm jonesing to do something like it again.
The fish are quite wonderful, is it cast glass, or did he paint on the larger pieces of glass? Great stuff. xox

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness the paintings of the fish on the glass are amazing, such a perfect medium to be painted on...you appear to be viewing them as if under ice. I spent last weekend in Darwin, as far north from where I live and still be in Australia, to attend my artistic 'hero' Anna Dobrowska aka Finnabair's workshops. She is so inspirational and I learnt so much, just have to try and put some of it into practice now. xx
