I made this paper bag collage in February and set it aside for completion later
you know how it is - it just wasn't speaking to me yet
it started as a humble trader joe's bag
- layers of collage -
- layers of paint -
- layers of texture -
a little watercolor sketch of the trees out my window
*
but it needed completion
I trimmed it down to fit this beautiful blue linen book cover
added more tea bag papers
a piece of nova scotia beach pottery
children's book text
assembled into a snatch of an idea
thread
(I love thread)
it feels completed now
I think it's breathing a sigh of relief too
very nice. i love how much of your piece is recycled materials. i'm working on using more.

ReplyDeleteKimmie this is beyond beautiful... my favourite piece that I have seen from you which is saying something... the lines and textures are just amazing and so glad you waited until it spoke to you cause it obviously had great things to say...xx
ReplyDeleteI liked it before but now!! WOW! I can't believe how much it pops on the blue backing. And that doesn't even mention the strings and words. Outstanding. I'm sure it will sell quickly.
ReplyDeleteWhat an honor for that old blue book cover to live again supporting and framing your beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteLove the threads and the words ! Perfect solution. Isn't it amazing how something so fine and delicate, like thread, can in fact almost become the biggest part of the page and 'ground' it. A beautiful piece of creativeness Kimmie. xx
ReplyDeleteWell worth the wait! That blue book cover really made it pop! Gorgeous colors and fabulous texture. So very beautiful! Happy weekend wishes to you, Tammy

This must have been the reason you waited. It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteI am so curious. How did you attach that thread? It is amazing! Like it is moving and jumping off the canvas. I love it!
this is beautiful. the book cover is a perfect background, the poem makes me smile, the texture is awesome and the thread - i love how it winds in front of and behind the words. they look like they are floating. so creative, i love it.

It's amazing what you can do with a Trader Joe's bag (wish I had a Trader Joe's here) and an old book cover. I can't seem to find those old books with the awesome linen covers. It is gorgeous!
ReplyDeletethis is a really well done lovely piece Kimmie. Nice that it started on a grocery bag (like my "bag lady")...fun huh?
ReplyDeleteLovely piece of art.
