on the fence

I made some garden art for the garden this week
(while it rained)
these are the "hanging up" things that I made



the medallion is made from 2 pie tins (one large and one small)



the center is made from bottle caps I collected from the local taco shop
they sell lots of glass bottle drinks to go with their tacos
there's a bottle opener at the cash register and a big bin to catch all the caps
they were very kind to let me take a big bag full of caps home with my taco



this next medallion is made from a giant olive can that was a Christmas present last year



this is only half of the can ... and 2 more pie tins ... the other half of the can is another kitschy piece of garden art I will show you in my next post



the cool thing about these metal pieces is that over time they will get beautifully rusted
at

    Love the garden art! I hung flags around my garden this morning as well. Mine are to deter the deer though...plus they are cute. :)

    Stumbled onto your blog via Elizabeth Aquino. What a perfect find! I am away from my home and garden due to family obligations. I miss it, and look forward to some version of garden art when I get back...

    I love your garden art! I used to collect olive oil cans and display them all around my kitchen above the cabinets. There was a can of Popeye spinach up there too, because whoever heard of olive oil without Popeye? If only I had been clever like you and made some garden art of those cans instead of pitching them when we remodeled? You're such an inspiration!

    LOVE your art. I made flags like that but only one layer for grand kids and a friend for July 4th.
    Excited to see the bottle tops as am planning to use some on the quilt I just started. Did you just punch a nail in to make the hole?

    Very cool! Your medallions are fabulous! In Jordan, you see lots of folks using those olive oil tins as planters on their porches and balconies. Makes for a very colorful garden display. Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy

    what clever and original garden art you have created! It must be a pleasure to sit out there. And it is fun you collected the beer caps all in one go at the Taco place. LOL. Maybe you can make the Taco shop something to hang. soon, their customers will be wanting them. You will have back orders and have to hire helpers. .....

    I'm on a kick to save cans, too. I am in awe of your green olive can. That picture on the can is priceless. I wish I knew how you made those pie tin medallions. I actually bought a pie the other day in hopes of making something, but it turned out too bad to even show. Yours is lovely.

    the medallions are terrific! i can't decide which i like more: bottle caps for sure, but the olive can is perfect too!

    and you are right, the rust will only make them more appealing.
    some day, you must show us a step by step on how to make the pie tins into those gorgeous sunbursts.

    what wonders you create using bits of this and that...I can imagine the happy sound of you tipping the bottle caps into a bag and taking them home to play!
