I unwrapped my oil spill quilt yesterday

it was a sunny day
(unusual for here)
the fabric was soaked through
but as I unfolded and unfolded again,
it appeared to be o.k.
the underside of it has the worst damage
but the front has only a few spots and considerable fading
it really is quite small in reality
my dog standing guard
drying in the sun
and a heart
what will I be doing with it next?
I need to back it and bat it
then make it suitable for hanging
it was making me sad
now, it makes me happy
and about the oil spill?
only time will tell.

I watched a whole news story about a movie being made about just one of the birds rescued from that oil spill. "Bird Number 395" Or something like that, I probably have not remembered the exact number correctly. But keep an eye out for it.

I love your quilt too and am glad it did not get too "damaged" on the front. But it had to go through this process to BE what it is representing! I understand that.
It is such a beautiful tribute! And I feel your feelings of taking it through!
I really can't find the words to comment on this. Heartbreaking but uplifting at the same time. You have put yourself through all of this for your artistic creation to be born. I'm grateful I was able to read this.

ReplyDeleteOh my, this post really touched me and brought back the feelings I had when the oil spill first occured. I think your quilt will be beautiful, even though it has come through a lot. Maybe that's the way the Gulf will be too, along with all it's wildlife....eventually.
