be yourself

this week has been a crazy school week for the kids,
but working in my art journal has been very do-able.
sometimes I'd rather be a mad painter in an airy light-filled loft
... but I'm a mom, driver, cook, maid, etc ...
and surely,
if I were the mad artist in a loft
... I would wish for momming, driving, cooking, etc....

so I doodle
and I blog
:)

Here's how I did these pages:
gesso
*
ink-jet printed image
(it's me at age 6)
*
mod-podged face down
*
about an hour later, dampen ink jet paper
*
carefully rub and peel away paper, leaving image behind
*
mod podged second image face up
*
a bit of gesso to soften the edges
*
a bit of color (I used watercolor pencils)
*
tea bag paper for my words
*
words mod-podged down
*
a little more gesso, color and doodling
*
just trying to be myself today

  2. I love your journal pages. Precious six year old face!!! Love the process of transfering. Thanks again for sharing techniques. So much appreciated.

Yes, there are days I am at work as a counselor that I wish I was completely retired and home just making art. Then there are days I am home making art and feeling stuck, need a break from it, so go to work and get that break. I also still like the feeling of helping people there. So it's a back and forth internal struggle...but I think I can honestly say I get a fair share of both experiences to give me balance and joy in my life.
Oh, and I love that I have a grandparents sleep over planned fora few weeks hence where I'll get to play with my SIX YEAR OLD grandkids. ;-)

  6. thanks for the tutorial. makes me want to try it immediately. plus, be yourself not just a reflection is a great "motto" for the Magpie Tales weekly installment story I am doing. I have only done two installments so far but I left our heroine facing herself in a mirror and wanting to get out into nature. Hmmm. Maybe that's the magic key for her. To "be herself."

Yeah, for driving, cooking, caring Moms.

  10. You're tutorials are always so "on point", Kimmie. I haven't mastered ink jet transfers, so will give the mod podge treatment a try. Love this spread!!! Wearing the hats is the easy part, it's juggling them and trying to keep them all in the air at once that's difficult!!! LOL!!! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  13. wonderful pages Kimmie, and good advice, loved it that you considered the process and photographed the whole thing, I am usually way too consumed by the process to take photos, or even to remember to take photos!

  15. Busy is good, as they say :) Love seeing your transfer technique. Have you tried heat transfers on paper? Love how they work, especially if you alter the image first.
