judgement day

a big part of the fun is bringing your best stuff to the fair for judging
there are actually big prizes for the winners ($$)
every year I think I should enter my best "mile high biscuits"
or one of the Sweet Husbands roses
I may just do that next year
especially if I'm looking at a second year of being down here for a week
with my Cavy Girl and her 4-H club

(fleece)

(flowers specimens)

(canned goods)

(baked goods)

Today is the day the little piggies (Cavies - aka guinea pigs) are to be judged
our little pigs are definitely "pet class" with their tattered ears and broken coloring
but - believe it or not - the competition is stiff if you have a true show pig

  1. The "exhibits" have always been my favorite part of fairs. In Tampa at the Florida State Fairgrounds there's an area called Cracker Country. It's a wonderful year round Florida Pioneer and historic exhibit. There are old buildings, school houses, general stores, post office, old halls... there's a model train exhibit and a vintage train caboose doctor office that was actually a friend's father's office when he was a railroad doctor... During the fair there are folk artists and vendors... it's great. Then there are the animals and foods, flowers, art, woodwork and wine... ahhhhh... Heaven.

  5. Who knew that they judged Guinea Pigs at the Fair!!! I certainly did not. It has be AGES since I have even BEEN to a fair. Did not attend the Calif. State Fair this year either but there is a bit of fun to the exhibits that are all things "home-grown" don't you think? Getting back to the root of it. How important is that!!!

  6. I've always enjoyed the exhibits at the fair far more than the carnival rides or games. To my knowledge, our fair doesn't pay cash for prizes. But I was always in 4-H, so I guess we didn't qualify. I look forward to more pics and hope the cavies win something.
