Inchy By Inch Challenge

Having all this fun stuff to play with from Inchie Arts has got me jumping in on the Inchy By Inch Monday challenges. They're going through the alphabet and are on the letter "F" now ... I think I have some catching up to do! For this project I used the white Twinchie Squares (shown here .....)

I think I'll go through the alphabet using flowers from my garden.
I have beautiful baskets of fuchsias on my porch in the summertime.

Using a photograph from last summer, I first sketched my drawing in pencil and then went over it in ink and next colored it in with watercolors.
The Inchie Arts material took erasing of the pencil marks without the surface getting roughed up -
and I'm very happy with how well the watercolor took to the surface as well.

But did you know how to spell F U C H S I A?
I didn't! and had to put in an "oops!" and spell it correctly ...
I can't stand to leave something misspelled!

You'd think it would go by typical spelling rules - is there such a thing? - and be spelled
F U S C H I A
.... but it's named after a 16th c. German botanist by the name of Leonhart Fuchs .... so it's
F U C H S I A
 .... oops!

  1. I love that you didn't start over...leaving the wrong and right spellings for a bit of whimsy (sp?)...and reflecting your sense of humor.

  2. having worked and worked with one of our kids and husband who can't spell - the "rules" don't work! oops, however, does work. We are all learning, everyday. ALL day. Beautiful, clear art - as always. I've been thinking about you and your tiny pieces parts!

  3. Kimmie, I adore the little "oops!" And thanks for the botany lesson. I actually had no idea that these beautiful flowers were named after Herr Fuchs. Your idea of using your flowers on your 'twinchies' is brilliant! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  8. love the OOPS!! and there is not spelling that makes sense. funny, teaching second graders spelling, how confusing...like it's spelled "this way", but also this and this way too...like all the ways to spell the sound of A, for example!! anyway, i degress, your drawing is purrfact: ooops, perfect!

  9. that is gorgeous , love the colours and the oops bit.
being Dutch there's only one way to spell it for me and thats the German one. It's pronounced Fuksia instead of fjooshia

  14. it's gorgeous--I love it that you painted your own. Now, I use collage images on almost everything but you've ALMOST inspired me to get out my paints again!

    :)

(well, okay, right, they aren't exactly put away, but you've almost inspired me to actually draw my own images and paint them myself.)
