collected shells - Myall Beach, Cape Tribulation
I'm posting these in the chronological order of when they were done. There were a few days of rain - not suitable for sitting out capturing something - even if they are "water" colors :)
So this was a simple sampling of some shells I had collected.
I had heard that the spiral type shells would go in the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere. Not true - they spiral the same way.
I thought the moon looked the same too.
The stars were very different though.
The Southern Cross looks like a kite lost on the wind and soaring to the Milky Way.
What a beautiful description of the night sky in the southern hemisphere. Your sketchbook is truly a piece of art.
ReplyDeleteSOOOOOOOO delicate....interesting about the spirals. your descriptions are so peaceful. loverly!
ReplyDeletethey are gorgeous shells..
ReplyDeletei relish this page of your journal shells are such works of art aren't they
ReplyDeleteYour lovely shells were easier to pack and SO beautiful Kimmie!!! You captured nature's beauty so artfully!
ReplyDeleteDid the water go down the drain in the opposite direction that it does in the US? LOL
Love your shells and to find out that nature behaves even in the southern hemisphere!
ReplyDeleteSweet gems from a great vacation! Thanks for sharing them, Kimmie! I love the way you described the night sky and the Southern Cross - sooooo lovely and poetic. Hugs, Terri
ReplyDeletePatty - the water went straight down without spinning at all when we were in the tropical north - too close to the equator? and farther south - it went down counter clockwise ....
ReplyDeletemany things were disorienting - the 1st of which was that the sun was always in the north of the sky rather than the south.
this collection is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteon a different note ... apparently water going down the sink swirls a different direction in the southern hemisphere. so logically speaking water in malaysia must just gush straight down since we're just next to the equator!
