Poignant. Because of the title, and because the crow is so alert in it's looking, danger is implied. 'Danger' and 'sorrow', implied by the color choice, are why critters sanctuary.
I agree with your observations, though I was not purposeful with my head - just my heart. Crows represent death in European cultures - but are guardians and protectors in native cultures. They are fascinating creatures with a complex social structure - including government! Amazing, right?
