(the mitten on the right is turned inside out) |
I finished these thrummed mittens over the weekend
(thrummed mitten kit purchased on Etsy from Moonlight and Laughter)
the inside is fluffy fleecy roving wool which will felt over time
I'm thinking these are probably the warmest mittens ever invented
and having been invented in Eastern Canada,
I'm also thinking
they would know
(green tomato) |
and because it was forecast to be 28 degrees last night
we brought all our tomatoes in
I think I'll make pickles and chutney and stuff like that
as if I didn't already have enough to do
but I'll be glad when it's 28 degrees outside and I can open a jar of almost sun
thank you
Marilla O'Brien of Moonlight and Laughter for the excellent knitting kit
the directions were thorough and very easy to follow
I LOVE my new mittens!

They look so warm and cozy....have fun chutney making, such an Autumnal thing to do:)
They do look wonderfully warm -- this is the perfect fall post, I think -- a bit of summer still here and winter to come!
I want a whole sweater coat out of this. Adore....xox
Those mittens really do look really warm.
In the winter you will have a touch of summer with your tomatoes...whatever you decide to make with them. :)
I have a pair on the needles right now! I was afraid I was doing something weird-but they look just like that! Thanks for sharing.
Like you will need such warm mittens. Don't you live in the warm part of the west coast? Just joking. Hope those mittens do the trick. It's still quite warm here and I have the AC on.
Lovely and so warming...now when winter arrives you will be ready!!!! Peace, Mary Helen
I just love the texture and design of these gloves...brilliant idea to have the 'felting' process go on as you wear them!

Gorgeous mittens Kim! I do not look forward to wearing any of them yet though...it has been cold here also, but still hanging on this week to summer...I'll take every last bit!
Stay warm, and bottle up the summer with those tomatoes of yours!
yes, they would know wouldn't they? and your tomatoes look like mine... a whole kitchen full, but ripening very well in the meager sunshine!
Lovely post Kimmie and the colors of your mittens are perfect and complimented by that fine green tomato!
I was excited about your mittens BEFORE I saw that you ordered from my dear and old friend Marilla! We met back in the 70's
It really is a small world!

inside out it looks like it could be a dust mitt!! lol Those are awesome, I've seen some thrummed booties as well. Those appeal to me and my very cold toesies!

The mittens are awesome! Such a clever idea :) They'd probably be too warm for the average UK winter sadly!
how cool! i've never heard of thrummed (thrumming??) mittens before! great colors...i just saw a nice looking fried green tomato po' boy recipe on Pinterest...great pics, as usual!
Beautiful mitts! and so cozy! I had a pair like them (bought from Eastern Canada)many winters ago, and loved them. Now I have a beautiful felted pair that my sister made for me that keep me warm. It is -10C (14F) here this morning, and we have already had colder mornings. Winter is here!
I had a wonderful catch up this morning reading your latest posts. Loving the boxes, waxed blosoms and of course wanted to wish you a belated happy birthday! Looks like it was a great time.
You are welcome, Kimmie! I am so happy to hear that you like the mittens, and that the pattern was easy to follow. They are beautiful and will serve you well this winter!
Those mittens are so cool ... yet look so warm! Have a great day! Tammy
interesting mittens. wow, can't believe you hit 28 already. we still haven't seen any frost on the pumpkins.
Really warm and cozy! But, look intimidating to knit because I only know basic knitting skills. Our tomatoes have been gone for while and I made green tomato relish out of the end ones. Lovely pictures of them. :)
