... or my treatment of bottlecaps ...
a new bottle cap |
I save them and am known to save them
so I am gifted with bottlecaps from family and friends
even friends as far away as syracuse and san diego
*
a hammered bottlecap |
my backyard patio has a pebbled concrete surface
I find that this is a perfect substrate when I am hammering them:
they get nicely scratched up at the same time
*
a rusted bottlecap |
my homemade rust recipe is very simple:
lay caps face up in a pan
sprinkle generously with salt
pour hydrogen peroxide over them
let them sit for several hours
voila
rusted bottlecaps
*
it saves the trouble of searching sidewalks and parking lots
especially since those are usually going to be corona or budweiser anyway
(boring)
but don't stop searching
... think of them as landlocked seashells ...

I love your process. I'll be on the lookout for some Alaskan ones for you!
Thanks, Kim. I was just getting ready to ask about a to b. Last night as I was hammering away on my steel block, I was thinking, "how does she do that?" :-) Sue
red rusted bottlecaps. a day doesn't get much better than that! Love the photos!
"landlocked seashells" I love that!!!
and you are totally right...I've found a Corona, a Miller and a couple of Bud...nothing cool
You realize of course that every time I see a "cool" bottlecap I'm going to think of you. Want to save and send them to you....
I will look for some special unique ones for you here in Tx. I should have looked yesterday when I went to Mexico on a day trip with my friends. But I will be going back. I love what you said about them being "landlocked seashells".
You know how much I love rust. I can't believe you get the neatest old bottlecaps. I end up with the Bud and Busch ones. Even Corona is a step up in my world (grin).
Nice pix! And I would love to trade you saved bottlecaps for clothing tags, which are my obsession: )
I can't get enough of your bottle cap posts! Collecting them is one of my MANY obsessions. :)
landlocked seashells...i think of myself as one some times,
not a bottle cap, the landlocked seashell!!
