why go out and buy a trophy when you can make one?
I'm hosting a chili cook-off and wanted to have a trophy for the winning chili.
My first thought was, "where is that trophy place I always see from the highway?"
My next thought was, "screw it - I'll make one."
****
start with one can of beans ..... (emptied of course)
add a bunch of western style, nostalgic, fun junk
including the S O L bottle cap I found yesterday
(which if yours is the winning chili, you are not S.O.L. - but a STAR - like the Sun!)
(see this post from my other blog)
p.s. here's how I attached it to the wood base:
I hammered a long nail through the wood so it sticks straight up.
Then I stuck the can on the nail (the metal is easily pierced)
Then I stuck a cork on the nail to give the can a snug fit to the wood.
Easy as pie.

LOVE this, Kimmie! SOoooo much better than a "store bought" trophy. You've done an outstanding job of it! Hugs, Terri xoxo
oooo this ROCKS! i love it! before i started homeschooling my son, i worked in a trophy shop....this is ssoooooo much better! i am starting an art club at our school and i would love to do this as a project....do you mind?? we are focusing on recycled materials for our main theme!!

They will be fighting over this trophy - very cool!!!!
Some of those bought trophies are really naff - but not this one!! That's what I call creative recycling!
Now THAT is a real trophy, my friend!
Fantastic trophy! I'll never look at a baked bean can in the same way again!

Wayyyyyyyyyy more gooder than a real one! Groovy girl. Hope the winner appreciates it because this is the cutest thing I've ever seen. This will be one fun event and we want lots of pictures:)
You are too clever for words, all the chili makers will be holding their breath hoping they will be the lucky winner! Love it!
